So what is a doula?
A birth doula is a trained professional who helps a birthing mama by providing emotional and physical support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Preparing for birth and parenthood can feel overwhelming, exciting or maybe even scary -- a doula is a great resource and guide to help you navigate all of the questions that arise during this amazing time of your life.
Labor is like running a marathon! You will (hopefully) do a lot of preparation ahead of time, and then one day it's GO TIME. In a hospital room filled with medical professionals, a doula is there to speak YOUR language and support you in any way you need. Maybe you need someone to rub your back, help you know which position is optimal for the baby, squeeze your hips through each contraction, remind you of your goals, take those pictures the moment your baby is born... I got you!
Research shows that having a doula at your birth lowers the rate of c-sections, long labors and improves your chances of a positive birth and postpartum experience.
To me personally, being a doula means helping empower mamas to take ownership of the birth they want and give them the education and tools to be able to achieve that. As a doula, I am dedicated to creating a calming, confident environment where families feel empowered and cared for throughout pregnancy and birth.
